Fiesta Feed

We recently had our annual spring philanthropy, Fiesta Feed. Every year we pair up with the gentlemen of Pi Kappa Alpha to raise money to benefit Autism Speaks. This year we had an amazing turnout, serving almost five hundred students and others around the community unlimited nachos. We are so blessed to help and be a part of Autism Speaks.

World Autism Awareness Day

Today, April 2, is World Autism Awareness Day. Help celebrate with us by lighting it up blue! But do not stop today continue to spread awareness all month long!

"Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and autism are both general terms for a group of complex disorders of brain development. These disorders are characterized, in varying degrees, by difficulties in social interaction, verbal and nonverbal communication and repetitive behaviors. They include autistic disorder, Rett syndrome, childhood disintegrative disorder, pervasive developmental disorder-not otherwise specified (PDD-NOS) and Asperger syndrome. With the May 2013 publication of the new DSM-5 diagnostic manual, these autism subtypes will be merged into one umbrella diagnosis of ASD" (http://www.autismspeaks.org/what-autism)

Happy Valentine's Day!

Happy Valentine's Day from Alpha's Xi's. We hope you have a fantastic day :)

Mom's Day!

"A Beautiful Thing is Never Perfect"

What a perfect quote to describe moms day today. Today, Alpha Xi's and their moms showed off their creative abilities at Paint Yourself Silly. Paint Yourself Silly's process goes a little something like this:

After imaginations ran wild the end result turned out to be a success! The store was filled with laughter and excitement as girls came and went having a fantastic time with their moms. It definitely doesn't take an artist to create a beautiful piece of work.

Karaoke Kampout

It's time for Karaoke Kampout again!

The fall philanthropy for Alpha Xi Delta is tonight from 9 pm until 2 am. Come for hot dogs, chips and s'mores, and stay for some karaoke.

There will be chances to win gift cards to some Lincoln hot spots so don't miss out!

All the money benefits Autism Speaks, Alpha Xi Delta's national philanthropy.

So stop by the Alpha Xi Delta chapter house at 1619 R Street for some fun!

Tickets are $4 from any Alpha Xi Delta in advance, and $5 at the door.

Walk Now for Autism Speak 2012

In April of 2009, Autism Speaks became the national philanthropy for Alpha Xi Delta. Autism Speaks raises awareness for all disorders on the Autism Spectrum. There is no known cause or cure for Autism Spectrum Disorders.

Kristen was a great sport and dressed as the penguin. She was a huge hit with all the kids!
As Alpha Xi Deltas, we are privileged to work with such an amazing organization. On October 20, we went to Haymarket Park to volunteer at the Walk Now for Autism Speaks. This event raises awareness within the Lincoln community. We were grateful to have the support of our sisters of the Gamma Delta chapter at the University of Nebraska-Omaha.

University of Nebraska-Lincoln Formal Recruitment 2012

10 Recruitment Tips!

Dear Potential New Member,

Recruitment is always an eventful time for sororities. It's arguably the most important time of the year. With all the activities going on, it can seem a bit overwhelming. But it can also be fun, and less stressful with a few helpful hints from the women of Alpha Xi Delta:

1. Wear Flip Flops Between Parties. The days will be long, and especially on Thursday during House Parties, your feet are going to hurt after wearing your heels. Wear comfortable shoes while you walk from one house to another. Stash them in some bushes outside the house before you head in and don't forget to grab them on the way out!

2. Ask Questions. Yes, you will be asked countless questions at each party, but it's important to ask them too! Asking questions shows that you are interested and it helps you learn more about a certain chapter.

3. Stay Healthy. Recruitment week is a long one! Make sure you get plenty of sleep, eat filling, healthy meals and drink lots of water. It'll be hot outside, so taking simple steps to keep up your energy will help.

4. Meet As Many People As You Can. Obviously you'll meet tons of people during the week.  Getting to know multiple members of a chapter can help you get a better sense of that house. At the same time, get to know some other potential new members. By meeting some new people, it'll help a big campus feel smaller once you see a familiar face.

5. Show Off Your Own Style. Each chapter is interested in getting to know you. So show off your funky heels or those cute earrings you've been dying to wear. Clothing is a great way to express your personality in a nonverbal way.

6. Go In With An Open Mind. We all know the stereotypes surrounding the Greek Community. But what is most important is keeping an open mind. You might be surprised by what you find!

7. Enjoy Yourself. It's important that you feel comfortable in your surroundings. Recruitment is important, and joining a chapter is a big part of your college career, but it's important to have a good time. Don't stress. Everything happens for a reason.

8. Smile. As cheesy as it sounds, your best accessory is your smile.

9. Take A Deep Breath. Whenever things begin to feel overwhelming, take a breath. It'll help you feel a little less stressed and better focused.

10. Realize Your Potential. As Alpha Xi Deltas, we strive to realize our potential on campus, in class and in our communities. Regardless of what chapter you join, it's always great to be the best you can be.
